Job vacancy: Part-time housekeeper/cook

Shepherds Dene Retreat House, Riding Mill, Northumberland is looking for a part-time, experienced housekeeper/cook with good housekeeping and cooking skills required. Average hours: 9 hours per week house housekeeping and 6 hours per week cooking (cooking hours will be concentrated on one weekend per month with some shifts during the week).

Rates of pay: Housekeeping: £7.50 per hour   Cook:£8.50 per hour

As Housekeeper and Cook, you will play a crucial role in ensuring visitors, residents and guests receive a positive first impression of Shepherds Dene, by keeping bedrooms and common areas spotless, by preparing high quality, home-cooked food and by carrying out other general tasks within the house. Cheerful, caring and compassionate and a good team player, you will be capable of taking the initiative and have a flexible approach to work.

  • Previous housekeeping and cooking experience is essential
  • Ability to build positive relationships with our residents their families and our Shepherds Dene team
  • Exhibit a caring and compassionate attitude and support the Christian ethos of Shepherds Dene
  • Carry out housekeeping and cooking to a high standard
  • Able to make responsible choices and decisions, and act in guests’ best interests
  • Effective time keeping and time management
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Work effectively as part of a small, hardworking team

Warden recommended to train for ordination

Warden Jane Easterby has recently been recommended to train for ordination in the Newcastle Diocese. Jane will study part-time with the Lindisfarne Regional Training Partnership, whilst working full time as Warden. It is envisaged that she will continue as Warden for the foreseeable future as a Minister in Secular Employment after ordination. Jane is thrilled and excited and is looking forward very much to starting her training in September.

New Area Dean for the Corbridge Deanery

Congratulations to Riding Mill Priest-in-charge Revd Lesley Chapman who has been given the additional responsibility of Area Dean for the Corbridge Deanery. We wish Lesley every blessing in her ministry.

Riding Mill – New Vicar!

The Bishop has announced that the next Priest in Charge at Riding Mill, and the Bishop’s Adviser for Spirituality and Spiritual Direction will be the Revd Lesley Chapman.

Lesley is currently Priest in Charge of The Ascension, Kenton in Newcastle.

Lesley and her husband Stan will be moving into the vicarage in the summer and are very much looking forward to living and working here in the Tyne Valley.

Lesley has sent the following message:

Please let the congregation at St James, Riding Mill know that I am delighted to have been appointed as your priest and that I am looking forward to working with you all.  You can be sure of my prayers in the coming weeks and I hope you will hold us in your prayers as Stan and I organise our move to Riding Mill.  Please pray for the congregation at The Ascension also as we prepare to leave.”

A further announcement has been confirmed by the Bishop’s office that Lesley will be licensed in St James’ Church on Monday, 18th July at 7.30pm.
